篇10:Life In The Jungle / 《丛林生活手记》- 金兆炜(2005-2009)

Zhao Wei and friends.

Life In The Jungle
Hi, readers. I’m Kim Zhao Wei, graduate from clhs year 2009.
Dear Puan Hong wanted me to be a storyteller here about my life in matriculation.
Frankly, my angmo not that good and I ain’t a great storyteller too.
Haha, so hope u all understand on what I’m trying to say^^
Well, it all started with my decision to whether pursue whether in diploma, matriculation and form six.
At first, I am really confused and lost.
That time, I didn’t know what was best for me and all I could do is by taking advice from different people.
At last, decided to go to matriculation.
Since it took the least time and I could eventually continue with my architecture course which I aimed for since form 5.
From what I had counted, including three one week sem breaks and also celebration holidays.
From twelve months, the course was reduced to nearly ten months only! Imagine, ten months of torture (at first to me) and I can pursue to university.
How nice…
On may bla bla, received letter from matriculation college of Perak and so I departed from Penang for registration.
In my first sight, the place was OMFG. Super ‘san ba’ jungle to me.
The right side was rubber tree estate and the left side was palm oil tree estate.
Well, I think you can start imagine how ‘ulu’ it was.
The college campus was situated at a hill and there were five dorms.
Three for girls and two for boys. After registration, there was a orientation for all the newbie like us.
So the thing went on for one week and we get to know new friends for all over the country even from Sarawak.
Most important, there were A LOT of MALAYS, which I never encountered before.
There were certain things I needed to adapt to.
First, the food which were sometime too salty, too lemak, too oily, too sweet and we had to endure it.
Second, communication.
Well, for CLHS students, we must understand and respect those Malays a bit.
Some of them are quite nice and kind to befriend with but there were also some hooligans there.
So do try not to get mix up with them.
There will be a lot of ‘songs’ for you all to listen, especially during the first week and also their rayas.
Next, the life there, I mean life in a jungle.
There will be wi-fi but the line do sucks with all kind of blockings that you will find it absurd.
What u can do there was sports, study, mix friends and had activities.
I ensure that your time will be very packed though you can’t imagine that if you’re not there.
Lastly, the lecturers.
Some lecturers were very dedicated and some in the other way round. So, mostly is the same thing.
Depend on yourself more than depend on lecturers.
Actually, beside study, there were indeed lots of activities and events that we can participate.
For example, all the Chinese students worked together to held lantern festival, duan1wu3jie2 (day we eat bak zhang), Chinese new year celebration, dong zhi (day we eat tang yuan) and also some exhibition about our Chinese tradition.
There were students carnival, trips and co-curricular activities too.
Do get active there and participate in activities.
There was also a organization so called JPP (Jawatankuasa Perwakilan Pelajar).
Well, it was like student representative in university but the power was less in comparison.
I participated in the votes and get a place in the committee as a secretary.
I did aim for the highest before but due to my poor malay speaking, I rather not take the risk.
Haha. It was a great experience being one of the committees.
You can actually participate in many trips to different matriculation colleges and also get to know people from other matriculation.
I enjoyed being one of them but to be honest, there was nothing to learn if you were an active person in co-curricular activities in secondary school.
Somehow, you will find Malays love meetings and we Chinese loathe meetings.
They can drag the meetings for few hours which was undeniably boring!
Well, it was also an experience which was good to earn.
What was the most memorable things there?
Friends, of course.
Now we can go cuti cuti Malaysia to all over the country with guides.
Haha.
How nice. For those who get matriculation offers, don’t waste it (if you don’t consider to study overseas)

Friendship Forever!
